Task 27 Fast Write

As I ponder my past history of note taking. I really cannot think of how it was. I was never a good student in high school. I went for the social aspect of it. I was lucky to get my work done. Tonight on my way home from class I had an epiphany. I was not ready for my education until now. I don't think I would have ever been the student I think I am, before this time. Ok, back to note taking. I think that the best way for me to take notes is going to be writing them as I read the articles. I think that my thoughts will be better connected to the ideas. I should be better at paraphrasing. No runny poop in the forthcoming paraphrases. This is all new to me. I was never instructed in my Eng 101 class (last Fall) to take detailed notes.
As for Ballenger's ideas on note taking. His techniques are good. I think one idea for note taking may just to read the article bit by bit and do some fast writes. I was afraid of fast writes at first, but now I kind of like them. Sometimes it is just babble to get to the next idea, but it forces you to just say whatever. Like I am now. I hope that in my note taking I will write some of my information down in proper context and them paraphrase it, and hopefully it will all become my own idea. I feel I don't have enough ideas to get me through 10 pages of essay writing. I barely have enough for a 10 min. fast write. The exercises on our AWB today, was good. I gained some good knowledge of my citations and remembered that I need to write who the articles address. Wow, there sure are a lot of I statements here. Arggg.

  1. Shannon,
I personally LOVE fastwrites - no grammar, punctuation, no boundaries ! Today's class gave me more confidence in my own abilities to do all that is required of me , of all of us, for these classes.

  2. Shannon- I think I was a lot like you. I don't have a lot of memories about my note taking or academics in high school. I went to the library to socialize too! It is funny how I was just a so so student only doing what I had to back then, and now I put so much pressure on myself. We've talked about this and our high expectations of ourselves as students now. We just have to remember to breathe and what was that saying your dad told you? Hee Hee. Believe or not we are getting smarter and better and I do believe it will get easier as we go. Thanks for your support!

  3. Hi Shannon :)

I totally relate to what you're saying about school. I always wanted to continue my education, but I am happy that I did not do it until now because I would not have done well or gotten the most out of it. And besides, I wouldn't have been doing it with all of you!!

    Have a great Sunday!

  4. Hi Shannon,

Great fastwrite, I am really liking them too. It is amazing what we can come up with when we just let it flow. I totally relate to your experience with not being ready for your education when you were younger. I "tried" college right out of high school and failed miserably. I just wasn't ready, but now with some life experience under my belt I am loving the opportutity. Anything worth having is a lot of work. Have a great week!
